Apple iPhone Duo: Release Date, Price, Features & Case Compatibility

Sep 09, 2026
Apple Introduces iPhone Duo: Everything to Know About Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the new iPhone Duo, a completely new iPhone design that combines a compact outer display with a large 7.6-inch folding screen. iPhone Duo in Star White and Night Sky. Image: Apple Announced on September 9, 2026, iPhone Duo represents one of the biggest changes to the iPhone lineup in years. Apple has redesigned both the hardware and iOS experience around a folding form factor while keeping the familiar experience of using an iPhone. The new device combines Apple's A20 Pro chip, dual displays, a precision hinge, new multitasking features, advanced cameras, Apple Intelligence, Siri AI, and a dual-battery architecture. Apple’s First Foldable iPhone The biggest story is the design itself. iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable iPhone. When closed, the phone uses a compact 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display. Apple says the outer display provides about 90% of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro while keeping the device compact enough for comfortable one-handed use. Open the device and it reveals a much larger 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display. Apple says the inner screen is approximately 50% larger than the display on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. iPhone Duo features a 5.4-inch outer display and a much larger 7.6-inch inner display. Image: Apple Two Displays, One New iPhone Experience Both displays use the same aspect ratio, allowing content to scale proportionally as users move between the folded and unfolded configurations. Apple has equipped both displays with premium features including ProMotion, Always-On display technology, and up to 3000 nits of peak outdoor brightness. The large inner screen also receives a special nano-texture finish designed to reduce glare and reflections while making the folding crease less noticeable. Apple says iPhone Duo will also gain support for Apple Pencil with USB-C later in 2026, allowing users to write, sketch, take notes, and mark up documents directly on the displays. A Completely New Hinge Design The hinge is one of the most important components of any foldable smartphone, and Apple has engineered an entirely new system for iPhone Duo. According to Apple, the hinge consists of more than 100 components and is designed to support the center of the folding display while keeping it flat when the device is opened. An integrated magnet array helps create a secure closure when iPhone Duo is folded. The enclosure is made from grade 5 titanium with a mirror-polished finish, while the 3D-printed hinge cover receives a contrasting micro-blasted finish. Built for Durability Durability is naturally an important consideration for a folding smartphone. Apple has therefore developed different protection systems for the inner and outer displays. Ceramic Shield protects the back of iPhone Duo, while Ceramic Shield 2 protects the outer display. Apple says the new material offers three times better scratch resistance than the previous generation. The folding inner display uses a scratch-resistant coating and a nano-textured polymer cover layer, along with high-strength glass and a titanium support plate underneath. Despite the folding hinge, iPhone Duo also carries an IP68 rating for splash, water, and dust resistance. An Advanced 48MP Camera System iPhone Duo features a new 48MP Fusion Main camera capable of shooting at up to 48MP resolution with zero shutter lag. A 24MP default mode provides a balance between image quality, detail, and manageable file sizes, while an integrated optical-quality 2x Telephoto option allows users to get closer to their subjects. The phone also includes a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera for wide-angle photography and macro shots. The Foldable Design Creates New Camera Features Having two displays gives Apple new ways to use the cameras. Duo Preview, for example, allows the person being photographed to see the live camera preview on the outer display. Users can also take selfies with the higher-resolution rear cameras while using the outer display to frame the shot. Other new camera features include Smart Take, which uses on-device AI to recognize when subjects are posing, and Kid Cue, which can display animations on the outer screen to encourage children to look toward the camera. iPhone Duo can also record 4K video at up to 120 fps in Dolby Vision using its 48MP Fusion Main camera. iOS 27 Is Reimagined for a Foldable iPhone Apple has adapted iOS 27 specifically for the new form factor rather than simply stretching the normal iPhone interface across a larger screen. When iPhone Duo is opened, users can see two Home Screen pages together, along with Today View. Navigation controls, the Dock, status information, and other interface elements can move to the side of the display to maximize usable vertical space. Apps automatically respond as the phone folds, rotates, switches screens, or changes orientation. Split View Comes to iPhone The larger display introduces one of iPhone Duo's most important productivity features: Split View multitasking. Two apps can run side by side on the inner display. Users can also open two windows from the same app, making it possible to compare two Safari pages, products, documents, or other content. App combinations can even be saved so users can quickly return to a favorite multitasking setup. The 7.6-inch inner display gives apps significantly more room when iPhone Duo is unfolded. Image: Apple Apps including Netflix, Zoom, Slack, and others are already taking advantage of the folding design. Video apps can use the entire inner display, while productivity apps can show significantly more information at once. A20 Pro Performance iPhone Duo is powered by Apple's A20 Pro, the same chip used in the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. The processor includes a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU, and new Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says the CPU can deliver performance up to 20% faster than A19 Pro, while the GPU can be up to 40% faster and more power efficient. A custom vapor chamber helps dissipate heat during demanding workloads. Apple says the combination can provide up to 35% better sustained performance than iPhone 17 Pro. Siri AI and Apple Intelligence iPhone Duo also takes advantage of Apple Intelligence and the new Siri AI experience included with iOS 27. Siri AI can use personal context from messages, email, photos, and other apps, understand content currently displayed on the screen, and help users complete actions related to that information. The foldable design makes Siri particularly interesting because a conversation with Siri can remain open on one side of the inner display while another app stays visible on the other. Dual Batteries and All-Day Battery Life Instead of placing one large battery on one side of the device, Apple uses a high-energy battery on both sides of iPhone Duo. Software manages the two batteries as one system. Apple rates iPhone Duo for up to 31 hours of video playback when using the inner display and up to 44 hours when using the outer display. With the inner and outer displays used equally, Apple rates the device for up to 24 hours of usage per charge. Fast charging can bring the battery to approximately 50% in around 20 minutes, while compatible MagSafe or Qi2 wireless charging can reach approximately 50% in around 30 minutes. Touch ID Returns One of the more surprising changes is the return of Touch ID. Apple has integrated Touch ID into the side button so authentication works consistently whether iPhone Duo is folded or unfolded. Users can also unlock iPhone Duo with a compatible Apple Watch. Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread and C2 Apple's N1 wireless networking chip gives iPhone Duo support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. The phone also uses Apple's next-generation C2 cellular modem system, including mmWave support in the United States. iPhone Duo is eSIM-only worldwide, allowing Apple to use internal space that would otherwise be occupied by a physical SIM system for additional battery capacity. iPhone Duo Colors Apple is launching iPhone Duo in two finishes: Star White Night Sky Both use polished grade 5 titanium, giving the new foldable a distinctly premium appearance. Four storage capacities will be available: 256GB 512GB 1TB 2TB That positions iPhone Duo above the traditional iPhone Pro lineup and makes it one of Apple's most premium mobile devices. iPhone Duo Release Date Pre-orders begin at 5 a.m. PT on Friday, October 16, 2026, with general availability beginning Friday, October 23, 2026. Apple says the initial launch will cover more than 70 countries and regions, with another 28 countries and regions following on October 30. New iPhone Duo Cases and Accessories Because iPhone Duo introduces a completely new folding body, traditional iPhone cases cannot simply be adapted to the device. Apple has introduced a dedicated two-piece iPhone Duo Case that protects both sides of the phone. It will be available in Sand and Navy Blue. Apple is also introducing an iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand. The integrated kickstand supports different viewing angles for reading, watching content, or making FaceTime calls. Apple's iPhone Duo Folio includes an integrated kickstand that supports multiple viewing angles. Image: Apple Both Apple's Duo Case and Folio support MagSafe, Qi2 25W, and Qi-certified wireless charging. Apple lists the iPhone Duo Case at $79 and the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand at $129 in the United States. Important iPhone Duo Case Compatibility Note iPhone Duo has an entirely different folding body and hinge design from traditional iPhone models. Cases made for the iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max will not fit iPhone Duo. Always verify your exact iPhone model before ordering a case or screen protector. Is iPhone Duo Apple’s Biggest iPhone Change Yet? iPhone Duo represents a much larger departure from the traditional iPhone formula than a typical annual upgrade. Rather than simply improving the processor, cameras, and battery, Apple has introduced an entirely different way to use an iPhone. The 7.6-inch folding display, Split View multitasking, dual-display camera features, Apple Pencil support, A20 Pro performance, and redesigned iOS interface make iPhone Duo feel like a combination of an iPhone and a compact tablet. At a starting price of $1,999, the first-generation Duo is clearly positioned as a premium device for customers who want Apple's newest technology and the flexibility of a folding display. Whether foldable iPhones eventually become a major part of Apple's lineup remains to be seen, but iPhone Duo marks the beginning of an entirely new category of iPhone. The 2025 iPhone Case Buying Guide: How to Choose the Perfect Case for Your Phone

Nov 13, 2025
Looking for the best iPhone case in 2025? Here’s the ultimate guide on choosing the right MagSafe, luxury, clear, protective, and aesthetic case—plus what to avoid and how to pick the perfect one for your lifestyle. Choosing the right iPhone case in 2025 feels a lot like choosing clothes—it’s personal, it reflects your style, and honestly… it says way more about you than you think. But beyond the aesthetics, your case is also your phone’s first (and sometimes only) line of defense. With hundreds of styles and countless features available, here’s the ultimate guide to picking the perfect iPhone case—whether you want luxury vibes, shock protection, MagSafe compatibility, or the cutest aesthetic to match your mood. 1. Decide What You Need Most: Protection, Aesthetic, or Both? Before you buy anything, ask yourself what matters most to you: ✔ Maximum protection If you’re a “my phone lives on the floor” type of person, prioritize protection features such as: Shock-absorbing bumpers Drop-tested certification Raised bezels around screen and camera Scratch-resistant coatings ✔ Aesthetic first If you’re all about the vibe, look for: Sparkly, shiny, or glitter finishes Soft pastel or coquette-inspired designs Marble, gold, or luxury patterns Crystal-clear cases that don’t yellow ✔ The perfect blend Most people want both style and safety. Many modern cases deliver that balance—for example, our Luxury Series Golden Aura iPhone Case offers premium gold detailing with shock-absorbing edges and MagSafe compatibility. 2. Check for MagSafe Compatibility (It Matters More Than Ever) MagSafe has become the gold standard for iPhone accessories. If you use any of the following, you’ll want a MagSafe-friendly case: Wireless chargers MagSafe wallets Car mounts MagSafe battery packs A MagSafe compatible case includes a built-in magnetic ring so your phone locks into place with accessories. Non-MagSafe cases can weaken the connection or stop it entirely. Quick tip: If you want a future-proof option, always choose a MagSafe case. Most of our latest designs at Shamo’s Cases are fully MagSafe compatible so you can snap, charge, and go. 3. Choose the Material That Fits Your Lifestyle Not all cases are made the same. The material you choose affects the look, feel, and protection level. 🟣 Silicone Soft and flexible Great grip in the hand Perfect for everyday, casual use 🟦 TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) Durable and shock-resistant Doesn’t get loose or stretched out easily Common in high-quality cases (including many of our designs) 🟫 Clear Polycarbonate Crystal-clear hard shell Ideal if you love showing off your iPhone color Best when paired with anti-yellowing tech 🟡 Hybrid Cases Combination of hard back + soft, flexible edges Excellent balance of protection and style Great for people who drop their phone often but hate bulky cases 4. Look for Real Protection Features (Not Just Marketing Buzzwords) Everyone claims their case is “protective,” but here are the features that actually matter: Shock-absorbing bumpers — These absorb impact when your phone hits the ground. Raised screen and camera bezels — Prevent scratching when your phone is laid flat. Anti-yellowing technology — Crucial for clear cases so they don’t turn ugly over time. Scratch-resistant coating — Keeps both your case and phone looking newer for longer. Precise cutouts and firm buttons — Avoid cases with misaligned holes or mushy button feel. At Shamo’s Cases, we focus on real-world durability: anti-yellowing TPU, raised bezels, and shock-absorbing edges are built into many of our designs so you can enjoy both beauty and protection. 5. Match the Case to Your Personality & Style Let’s be honest—your phone case is an accessory. It should fit your personality as much as your clothes and shoes. ✨ Love luxury? Look for gold accents, glossy finishes, and bold metallic details. Try:  Luxury Series Golden Aura iPhone Case (MagSafe) 🌸 Love soft, aesthetic vibes? Pastel, coquette-inspired, or dreamy designs are your best friend. Think soft colors, minimal prints, and cute, subtle details. 🌈 Want something fun and bold? Patterned cases, icons, and Y2K or retro styles are perfect if you want your phone to stand out in every mirror selfie. 💼 Prefer minimalist style? Choose clear cases, matte finishes, or neutral tones. Simple edges and clean lines always look classy and professional. Your phone is in your hand all day: in meetings, on the couch, at dinner, in the gym mirror. It deserves a case that feels authentically you. 6. Don’t Forget Grip (Or You Will Drop It) One of the most underrated details of a phone case is grip. A case can be beautiful, but if it’s slippery, it’s basically waiting to meet the floor. Look for: Textured or slightly raised edges Soft-touch or rubberized sides TPU bumpers paired with a glossy or printed back Many Shamo’s Cases designs use TPU bumpers around the sides for extra grip without sacrificing the aesthetic of the back. 7. Price vs. Quality — Where’s the Sweet Spot? Here’s the truth most brands won’t admit: you don’t necessarily need a $60+ case to get premium quality. What you really need is: Durable materials MagSafe compatibility (if you use MagSafe accessories) Good grip and a comfortable feel Scratch resistance Practical protection like raised bezels and shock absorption At Shamo’s Cases, we aim for that “affordable luxury” sweet spot — giving you high-end design, thoughtful features, and modern aesthetics without the inflated luxury markup. 8. Know When It’s Time to Replace Your Case If your current case has any of the following, it may be time for an upgrade: Yellowing or discoloration Cracks or chips in the corners Loose, stretched-out edges Scratched or cloudy surface Weakening MagSafe connection or warped magnetic ring When your case starts to age, it’s not just about looks—its ability to protect your phone is also reduced. Your iPhone (and your aesthetic) deserve better. 9. Our Top iPhone Case Recommendations for 2025 Not sure where to start?
